Strengthening Families Remained a Key Focus in 2008
Lt. Governor Aiona remained committed throughout 2008 to helping shape policies intended to strengthen families in Hawai`i, where his assistance efforts ranged from signing laws that protect children from online predators to rolling out after-school programs for students who are vulnerable to risky behaviors caused by a lack of adequate supervision once the school bell rings.
Efforts to Diversify the Economy Continue
Lt. Governor Aiona continued to take leadership in urging businesses and homeowners to embrace environmental initiatives that promise to steer Hawai`i toward an economy based on innovation and renewable energy.
Making Headway on Modernizing the State's Infrastructure
With the Administration focused on public infrastructure improvements, Lt. Governor Aiona provided energetic support for an ambitious plan to invest in building projects that will stimulate the economy and create jobs in Hawai`i.
Preparing Hawai`i Students for the Workforce
Lt. Governor Aiona continued throughout 2008 to build buzz in Hawai`i schools for a statewide effort intended to help prepare tech-savvy, achievement-oriented students for the workforce, as they develop marketable skills in science, technology, engineering and math – subjects that are key to economic competitiveness.
Promoting Healthy Living
Lt. Governor Aiona intensified his efforts to help improve the health of residents across the state, stressing everything from taking part in more physical activity to getting more nutritious food every day – at school, in restaurants and at home.
