Restoring Instructional Time for Students
Lt. Governor Aiona last week invited the Board of Education (BOE), Department of Education (DOE) and Hawai`i State Teachers Association (HSTA) leaders to sit down with him immediately to follow up on previous discussions held with Governor Lingle to restore instruction days for Hawai`i students.
Adapting to Change

Providing Congestion Relief for West Maui
Lt. Governor Aiona and State Department of Transportation officials today broke ground on the Honoapi`ilani Highway Widening Project from the Lahainaluna Road to Aholo Road.
Promoting Family Literacy
Lt. Governor Aiona traveled to Hawai`i Island to help engage families in reading-related activities as part of Read Aloud America's Read Aloud Program (RAP). The Lt. Governor has been actively involved with the literacy program since 2004 and helped to expand RAP across the state.
Tribute to Saint Damien
Lt. Governor Aiona last week participated in a mass and procession at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace and tribute at `Iolani Palace to celebrate the life and canonization of Saint Damien.
Creating a Healthier Hawai‘i
Lt. Governor Aiona recently participated in two events to help make Hawai`i healthier by supporting more active communities that encourage physical activity and nutrition, and create a more healthy and productive workforce.
Improving Visitor Service
Lt. Governor Aiona today presented Edmund "Buster" Civerolo with a commendation for being honored with the 2009 Outstanding Lodging Employee of the Year Award by the American Hotel & Lodging Association.
Lt. Governor to Attend Canonization in Rome
Lt. Governor Aiona announced at a news conference that he and his wife, Vivian, will travel to Rome for the canonization of Blessed Damien de Veuster, the Catholic priest who will be declared a saint.
Nine Inducted in Restaurant Hall of Fame
Lt. Governor Aiona participated in an industry-wide salute to nine restaurants that have made major contributions to Hawai`i's economy and way of life.
