INAUGURATION CELEBRATION TO USHER IN SECOND TERM OF LINGLE-AIONA ADMINISTRATION

HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle and Lt. Governor James R. “Duke” Aiona, Jr.
will be officially sworn in for their second term on Monday, December 4,
2006 at noon, as mandated by the State of Hawai`i Constitution.
Starting at 9:30 a.m., pre-ceremony festivities in the State Capitol Rotunda will feature entertainment by the Royal Hawaiian Band and the 111th Army Band of the Hawai`i Army National Guard.
The official inauguration ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. Chief Justice Ronald Moon will administer the oath of office to Governor Lingle at noon, followed by the swearing in of Lt. Governor Aiona. The ceremony will feature entertainment by the 111th Army Band of the Hawai`i Army National Guard, Les Ceballos, Ku`uipo Kumakahi and the Honolulu Boy Choir. A 19-gun cannon salute and military flyover will also take place. Seating for 1,000 guests will be reserved, with seating open to the general public on a first-come-first-served basis.
Following the inauguration ceremony, the Governor and Lt. Governor will proceed to Washington Place for a luncheon with members of the cabinet, neighbor island liaisons, members of the Governor’s neighbor island councils of advisors, and their families and guests.
In the evening, an inaugural dinner celebration, coordinated by the Inaugural 2006 Dinner Committee, will be held on the grounds of `Iolani Palace. Tickets to the dinner are $250 per seat.
Expenses for the ceremony and luncheon, which are estimated at less than $55,000, will come from the Governor’s budget. No public funds or resources will be used for the dinner.
The pre-ceremony festivities and inauguration ceremony will be broadcast live on the Governor’s Web site at www.hawaii.gov/gov. Portions of the ceremony will also be televised live on KITV, KHON-TV, KGMB-TV and KHNL-TV and aired live on radio stations KSSK AM 590 and KHVH AM 830.
On Inauguration Day, parking at the State Capitol will be closed to the public.
