LANA`I BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS APPOINTEES SWORN IN

HONOLULU – Lt. Governor James R. “Duke” Aiona, Jr. officially swore in Lāna‘i residents appointed to serve on various state boards and commissions during a ceremony held today at the Lāna‘i Senior Center.

This year, Governor Linda Lingle appointed 12 individuals from Lāna‘i to serve on eight different state boards and commissions, including the ‘Aha Kiole Advisory Committee, Community-Based Economic Development Advisory Council, Emergency Medical Services Advisory Committee, Hawai'i Commission for National and Community Service, Island Burial Council Islands of Maui and Lāna‘i, Policy Advisory Board for Elder Affairs, State Council on Mental Health and the Governor’s Lāna‘i Community Advisory Council.  The list of new appointees from Lāna‘i is attached.

“These volunteers are giving the people of Lāna‘i a voice on important issues facing the future of the island and our entire state,” said Lt. Governor Aiona.  “They have stepped forward to offer their time and expertise to help make a difference in the lives of their fellow residents and to strengthen our communities.  I encourage other Lāna‘i residents to apply to serve on a board or commission and take part in this important responsibility.”

Nearly 1,300 people statewide serve on more than 160 boards and commissions that were established by the state constitution, state statutes, or executive orders. This year’s appointees include 457 people from around the state who serve on boards and commissions that cover a wide range of industries and issues.
