The Kahului Airport Terminal Building was dedicated on October 17, 1990 and operations began on October 18. The terminal is 267,000 square feet and includes an 82,000 sq. ft. ticketing terminal, group tour bus terminal and group baggage drop off, and a 78,000 sq. ft. two-story Central Building which houses the airport administration offices, restaurants and concessions. This leads to the hold rooms and gates/jetways on both north and south sides.
In 1991, the old terminal was converted into a baggage claim facility with five carousels and airline baggage service counters. Roadway improvements around the terminal were also constructed.
Construction of four additional hold rooms and boarding gates was completed in February 1993.
The Commuter Terminal was dedicated on January 15, 1987. The facility accommodates two scheduled carriers, air taxis and flight tour operators.
