The Security ID Office is located in the central core of the Airport Admin Building across from the sculpture of Maui.

New Badging Process:
Individuals who require unescorted access to the Security Identification Display Areas (SIDA), Sterile, Air Operations Area (AOA) and Secured areas of the airport must possess an Airport photo ID badge. Applicants must pass an FBI criminal history check as well as a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Threat Assessment, and must be able to demonstrate an understanding of airport security procedures by passing a security exam. In addition, all badge applicants must provide documentation that establishes identity and employment eligibility.
To acquire an airport ID badge the applicant completes the necessary application forms and presents two valid forms of ID on the day they desire the take the security exam. Applicants with incomplete application forms and/or lacking two valid forms of ID will not be permitted to take the security exam. The security exam is offered on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Check-in for the exam begins at 8:00am and the exam process commences at 8:30am. Appointments are not available for this exam period, applicants are admitted to the exam on a first come-first serve basis and admission is limited to 8 individuals. The exam is also offered at 5:30pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, however appointments are required for this exam period and admission is limited to 5 individuals.
Fees are $50 for fingerprint processing and $10 for the badge. Fees are payable in advance of being admitted to the exam and are nonrefundable in the event that the badge is not issued. Acceptable forms of payment are cash, company check, or prearranged account. Two checks are required, one in the amount of $50 for fingerprinting and the other $10 for the badge. Company checks must be made payable to: State DOTA – Maui District.
Individuals who require access to Public areas only must also possess an Airport photo ID badge (Greeter Badge). These applicants must pass a TSA Security Threat Assessment and provide documentation that establishes identity and employment eligibility. Applications may be submitted any day during normal office business hours. An exam is not required fro a public area badge, however payment for the badge and two valid forms of ID are required at the time that the application is submitted. The fee for this badge is $10, which is payable by cash, company check made payable to: State DOTA – Maui District, or prearranged account.
All applicants should allow 2 ½ to 3 weeks for processing of the Security Threat Assessment. Badges will not be issued to the applicant until fingerprint, and Security Threat Assessment results have been received.
Each organization desiring to have unescorted access to SIDA, Sterile, AOA and Secured areas of the airport for their employees are required to have authorizing signatory recorded at the Pass and ID Office. The authorizing signatory must complete Signatory Authority Training (Appendix 36) annually, and must have Airport ID Media of the same areas being requested for their employees.
- Greeter Badge – Renew annually during the month of January
- Sterile Area Badge – Renew annually during the birth month. Should the badge holder also possess a Greeter badge, Sterile area badge is renewed annually during the month of January
- Porter Badges – Renew annually during the month of December
- Construction Badge – Renew annually during the month of December
- General Aviation Badges – Renew annually during the birth month
- Unlimited Badges – Renew annually during the birth month
The renewal process requires an appointment. Appointments are available throughout normal office business hours. Call 872-3874 during normal office business hours for an appointment. Individuals possessing a Ramp Driving Permit must re-take the ramp driving exam at the same time that they renew their ID badge. The ramp driving exam schedule is as follows:
- Monday / Wednesday / Friday – 1:30pm check-in at 1:15pm; 5:30pm (limited seating available)
- Tuesday / Thursday – 9:30am check-in at 9:15am
Applications must be submitted with two valid forms of ID. The fee for badge renewal is $10 per badge payable in cash, company check made payable to: State DOTA – Maui District, or prearranged account. If an ID badge is renewed after its expiration, and within 30 days of its expiration, an additional $10 fee will be assessed. Should the ID badge be expired more than 30 days, the badge will not be renewed and the badge holder must follow the new badge process above. Expired badges must be surrendered to the Pass and ID Office.
All vehicles and equipment operated within the Air Operations Area (AOA) must have a current Kahului Airport vehicle decal affixed to the left side of the front bumper. Vehicle decals are available at the Pass and ID Office at no charge. To obtain a vehicle decal, an application listing information regarding each vehicle requiring a decal along with a current vehicle registration and State of Hawaii Safety Inspection Certificate (if the vehicle is a licensed vehicle). If the vehicle or piece of equipment is not licensed (operated only within the AOA) the application must be accompanied by an Airport Vehicle Safety Inspection Application, for which an airport safety inspection decal will be issued. The fee for the airport safety inspection decal is $1.50 per decal payable in cash, company check made payable to: State DOTA – Maui District, or prearranged account. Towed equipment is not required to display a vehicle decal, however an Airport Vehicle Safety Inspection Application and decal is required. Additionally, a Certificate of Insurance (not an insurance card) must accompany all vehicle decal applications.
