Opinion Letter Summary

Opinion Letter No. 91-04
March 25, 1991
Police Blotters; Arrest Logs

Police blotters or arrest logs maintained by county police departments must be made available for
public inspection and copying under the UIPA. This log, which contains a chronological listing of
arrests made, is not "criminal history record information" that under State statutes is restricted from
disclosure. The disclosure of the names of arrested persons would not result in an invasion of privacy,
because an arrest is a public event, not a private one.
