KAPOLEI JUDICIARY COMPLEX - DAGS JOB NO. 12-21-7043
Kapolei Court Complex
The Kapolei Court Complex is situated on 10.97 acres, which was donated at no cost to the State by the Estate of James Campbell. The four-story, 123,118 square-foot court building will feature 12 non-jury courtrooms and 1 jury courtroom, and the 52,306 square-foot juvenile detention facility will have the capacity to house 66 juveniles. The complex will have 212 public parking stalls (including 11 handicapped accessible stalls) and 182 employee parking stalls.
Construction of the court building and juvenile detention facility - which is expected to be completed in March 2010 - is being overseen by the State Department of Accounting and General Services. Housing the core family court functions at the new Kapolei Court Complex will allow the Judiciary to redesign the current home of the Family Court in Ka`ahumanu Hale and ensure that appropriate family court resources are maintained in Honolulu. The courthouse in Honolulu will include a minimum of five courtrooms that will be capable of handling family court matters. The current Alder Street juvenile detention facility will be renovated and continue as part of the continuum of services provided juveniles under the care of the court.
