Department of Labor & Industrial Relations
Overview
The Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations has received both competitive and non-competitive ARRA funds to bolster existing workforce development and community services programs and continues to evaluate and apply for ARRA competitive grants through the Workforce Development Council to expand programs or initiate new ones. The vast majority of the grants are to stimulate the economy in an expeditious manner to create and retain jobs, promote and enhance job creation, and assist economic recovery.
Monies awarded so far have been formula grants or allocations intended to supplement existing programs. The department continues to evaluate and apply for competitive grants through its grant writing team lead by the Workforce Development Council and Workforce Development Division. Particularly on those competitive grants, the department is collaborating with other state agencies, the counties, and non-profit community to produce stronger multi-disciplinary proposals.
