Coming up for the May 3rd First Friday, Papana Group, a jazz ensemble from the United States Air Force Band of the Pacific - Hawai‘i will be featured at this month's First Friday event. The 17-piece United States Air Force Band of the Pacific - Hawai‘i, led by Chief Master Sergeant Laura C. Noel, also a vocalist, travel and perform their mission throughout the Pacific region.

Teaching Artists Liz Train & Marcia Pasqua:
The Dimensions of Nature - 2D and 3D
Saturday, May 11 | 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Explore the artful side of nature! Two dimensions or three? Drawing or sculpture? Why not try both? It's easier than you think with guidance from our professional Teaching Artists Liz Train and Marcia Pasqua, and inspirations from gallery works by Satoru Abe.

ART LUNCH

Tom "Pohaku" Stone:
Traditional Surfboard-Shaping and Sled Carving
Tuesday, May 28 | 12 noon - 1:00 p.m.

Legendary waterman Tom "Pohaku" Stone will share his knowledge of the ocean and ancient Hawaiian water sports. A professional surfer, Stone will discuss his lifelong education in traditional methods of shaping and preserving watercraft using ancient practices.

Stone is credited with single handedly revitalizing the centuries-old extreme sport of he‘e holua or Hawaiian sledding. He earned a master's degree in Pacific Island Studies from the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa and now shares his knowledge of culture and craft by instructing students in the ancient arts of sled building and surfboard carving.
