Arts in Education
(Updated August 12, 2009)

Purpose

The purpose of the Arts Education Program is to advance the goal of ensuring that the arts are integral to the education of every student in Hawai‘i. The Arts Education Program collaborates with government entities such as the state Department of Education, the University of Hawai‘i, and statewide non-profit arts organizations to support a wide array of arts education activities and services throughout the state.

Program Services

Program services are encouraging local culture and arts institutions to invest more in educational programming; providing a central resource for information, research findings and expertise; initiating and assisting development of partnerships among arts organizations; promoting a comprehensive arts education program in public schools; training artists to work with teachers and students in support of state fine arts standards; and training teachers and teaching artists to integrate the arts in other core disciplines.
