  • 2009 State Income Tax Refunds Delayed Until July 1

    HONOLULU - The State Department of Taxation is reminding the public that effective immediately, the issuance of all net income tax refunds for tax year 2009, including individual, corporate, and fiduciary income tax returns, will be delayed until July 1, 2010.

    Relating to the Conversion of Eligible Non-Roth IRAs into Roth IRAs
    The Tax Increase Prevention and Reconciliation Act of 2005 (P.L. No. 109-222; May 17, 2006):
    This Act allows taxpayers to convert eligible non-Roth IRAs to Roth IRAs regardless of income effective for tax years beginning after December 31, 2009. Previously, only taxpayers with federal adjusted gross incomes of $100,000 or less could exercise this option.

    The Department has issued its first letter ruling for 2010, its eleventh overall, discussing the application of the use tax to the importation of a jet engine into Hawaii for use as a spare part.
